6 tips to create a good daily routine




Daily routines are great building blocks to have to build a consistent, balanced and productive lifestyle. This blog post shares 6 ways to create a good daily routine for yourself.


I believe that a good daily routine is the one that is specific to our own lifestyle, something that's convenient and easy to follow and also something that promotes our growth. We certainly have the power to create our own daily routines that work best for us and enable our development.

I'll be sharing a few ways which can help us create a good routine for ourselves.

  1. List down aspects that are in your control and which are not. For example, school schedules, working hours, a few events, appointments and holidays are already decided for us and we don't have the ability to change them. So we need to keep these aspects in mind while deciding our own daily routines

  2. Use these predecided factors as the foundation for your routine. Now that we know the predecided parts of our life, we can start building the rest of the day around those parts, using them as the foundation. To give this process more clarity, we an use time blocking to block out the hours of the day which have been assigned some task.   3. Bookend your days with a morning and night routine Having a fixed morning routine and night routine gives your day a clear start and a clear end. This allows you to differentiate your days better and to start and end them on a good note. These routines don't have to be elaborate. In fact, make sure they are simple enough for you to be able to stick to them everyday. These routines can actually incorporate a lot of the habits you intend to sustain, leaving the rest of the day free for you to design.

  4. Create a list of all the aspects of your life that you want to include in your day. This serves as a guideline while designing your day and lets you plan out various activities accordingly. A lot of times 24 hours are not enough for all the things we want to do in life and this is where prioritising different aspects allows you to give enough time for each of them. You'll also be able to know how frequently you want to include that aspect in your life.

  5. Make time for things that help your growth. Designing a good day is actually about making time for the things that will help you move forward in life. Whether its through consistent habits, practising new skills, getting your life more organised or eating better, what we can ensure is that we make time in our days for these qualitative improvements in our life. Getting the right things done is more important than getting a lot done.

  6. Try to find balance. Balance is the most profound lesson that life has taught me in my 22 and a half years of existence. While we may envision a good daily routine to be filled up with activities, it is not sustainable and will eventually lead to a burnout. Here's where finding balance comes into play. Make sure to include time for rest, taking breaks, getting a creative recharge and even getting bored every once in a while. These times balance out the adrenaline filled power tasks that we try to tick off throughout the day.
